A beautiful day of leaf peeping was interrupted when a flock of sheep slowly moved down the road from the other direction. The leaf peepers were forced to wait about eight minutes while the animals moved past. In the end, just a single cowboy and some dogs were moving the flock.

Newly Identified Tick-Borne Bacterium In US Dogs

A new species of Rickettsia bacterium called Rickettsia finnyi has been identified by researchers after analysis of samples from dogs across the central and southeastern U.S. The bacterium is spread by ticks, and though the team behind the study isn’t able to confirm the species of tick responsible, it is possible that the lonestar tick is the culprit. As temperatures warm up, pet owners and pets alike are likely to spend more time outdoors, so proper tick etiquette is essential. Take measures to prevent a tick bite and check your pets for ticks after going outside. If you spot a bite on your pet that looks suspicious or concerning, go see the vet.
